This R&D project was MIND’s first financial literacy learning program, designed to carry forward the proven ST Math neuroscience approach into a new domain. The goal was to create an innovative interactive classroom model featuring narrative-driven animations and student game activities that help illustrate financial concepts.

Challenge

For over 20 years, MIND maintained a distinctive visual identity built around a unique style of characters and classical gradients. For this project, the team wanted a visual direction that felt fresh, innovative, and modern, while still retaining the vibrancy and engagement that students associate with ST Math.

Process & Exploration

After several rounds of exploration and feedback from stakeholders, we agree that math must remain the core focus. This guided us to refine the visual language, simplify the artwork, and ensure every design choice more directly supported clarity, problem-solving, and instructional intent.

Solution

While keeping the bright, vivid color palette that supports student engagement, I want to preserve the ST Math gradient heritage but present it with carefully chosen colors in a more modern way. I researched several popular game visual styles, and this exploration eventually led me to a silhouette-based visual approach, which removed unnecessary details, reduced cognitive load, and kept attention on core math actions. By reserving highlight colors only for essential information, the visuals became cleaner, more focused, and more instructional. This direction aligned perfectly with MIND’s instructional philosophy of visual clarity and conceptual focus.
